Traffic stop for mismatched licence plate results in pair of arrests, seizure of drugs

Innisfail RCMP have arrested a pair of individuals who were found to be on outstanding warrants.

A traffic stop was conducted on Sunday, April 6th after a vehicle was discovered with a mismatched licence plate.

Mounties say they had previously witnessed a female walk away from the truck. She was seen carrying a backpack.

The driver of the vehicle was found to be criminally prohibited from being behind the wheel. According to police, he could not provide registration, insurance, or a bill of sale. He was also in possession of bear spray and currency which was believed by RCMP to be the proceeds of crime.

Innisfail RCMP also recovered the backpack which had been carried by the female passenger. It was found a short distance from the truck and a search of it resulted in the seizure of various suspected drugs including cocaine, methamphetamine, and heroin.

Both the 43-year-old male driver, who is from no fixed address, and the female passenger, who is a 24-year-old from Penhold, face charges – including possession for the purpose of trafficking – and have upcoming court dates in Red Deer on April 10th and April 24th respectively.
