Rebels off to hot start at U15 AAA provincials

Hockey Alberta’s U15 triple ‘A’ provincials are taking place this week at Servus Arena in Red Deer.

The U15 AAA Red Deer Rebels include players from Olds, Rimbey, Red Deer Sylvan Lake, Three Hills, Ponoka, Red Deer County, Rocky Mountain House, and Bashaw.

Madden Daneault from Red Deer led all U15 AAA players in the Alberta Elite Hockey League in scoring this season with 93 points in 33 games. Jaxon Jaffray from Olds was second on the Rebels behind Daneault with 57 points in 32 regular season games.

The U15 AAA Rebels will be competing at provincials with the Calgary Bisons, the Calgary Northstars, the Grande Prairie Athletic Club Storm, and the St. Albert Raiders Sabres.

Red Deer won its first game on Thursday evening by the score of 3-1 over St. Albert. The offense for the Rebels was provided by Jaxon Jaffray along with fellow Olds product Noah Ulry. Daneault also tallied. Lane Bullee from Red Deer kicked out 29 of the 30 shots sent his way by the Sabres.

The Rebels improved to 2-0 at provincials by blanking the GPAC Storm 3-zip on Friday afternoon. Goals were netted by Luke Wiens from Three Hills, Brooks Newfield from Red Deer, and Jaffray. Madden Daneault had a pair of assists. Jace Lansing from Red Deer stopped all 16 shots he faced as the Rebels outshot the Storm 46-16.

Red Deer will finish up round robin play with games this evening at 6:15 against the Calgary Bisons and on Saturday at 1:45pm versus the Calgary Northstars.

The U15 AAA banner will be up for grabs when the tourney’s top two teams meet in the championship game on Sunday at 1:15pm at the Servus Arena.
