The Mountain View Mavericks are now 2-1-1 in Rocky Mountain Junior B Tier 1 Lacrosse League, after picking up their first victories of the season this past weekend.

On Friday night, the Mavs welcomed the Calgary Chill for a Central Division matchup.

After entering the 1st locked at 1-1, the Mav’s offense busted out to a 9-4 lead at the 2nd intermission before eventually coming away with a 12-9 win.

Then on Saturday, the team travelled to Fort Saskatchewan, where the Mavericks defeated the Rebels by a score of 6-5.

Mav’s Head Coach, Trey Christensen, is in his second year with the organization and was pleased with his team’s effort over the 2 games.

“We obviously had a tough start to the season, not quite what we expect out of this group and they of themselves. So, I was happy with the energy and focus on Friday and going into the second game we we’re a little beat up but the guys pulled through and stayed locked with it.”

Christensen added that his team performed well in all 3 key aspects of the game, defensively, in transition and on offense.

Next up for the Mavericks are back to back home games, as they welcome the Red Deer Rampage and Okotoks Marauders this weekend in Innisfail.

The Rampage are the Mav’s closest regional rival.

Christensen says while there is an extra emphasis on divisional matchups, it’s important to stay level headed.

“One of the hardest things to do is to stay true to your process, so while it’s a divisional game and it’s important not to get too high or low, just stay focused.”

The Mountain View Mavericks welcome the Red Deer Rampage to the Innisfail Twin Arena on Friday night at 8PM, before taking on the Okotoks Marauders on Sunday afternoon at 2.
