With goals hard to come by, series shifts back to Red Deer for Game 3

The Mountain View Colts and the Red Deer Vipers are deadlocked at one-game each in their Heritage Junior Hockey League playoff series.

Their best-of-five Northern Division semifinal will resume with Game 3 on Wednesday, February 26th at 8:30pm at Servus Arena in Red Deer.

The Colts dropped the series opener 5-zip last Saturday on the road.

Mountain View then responded by blanking the Vipers 2-0 on Monday night in Three Hills.

20-year-old goalie Nicholas Smith from Calgary earned the first post-season win of his HJHL career by kicking out 27 shots. He made 20 saves on 24 shots in Game 1 – the Vipers had an empty net goal in their win.

18-year-old rookie blueliner Trey Mueller from Olds and 20-year-old defenceman Zachary Wheatley from Surrey, B.C. scored their goals in the third period to propel Mountain View to the Game 2 victory.

Vipers 20-year-old netminder Meyer Guame stopped all 48 shots by the Colts in Game 1 and 34 of 36 in Game 2.

96.5 The Ranch will have live play-by-play coverage when the series shifts to Carstairs for Game 4 on Saturday night at 8 o’clock.

If necessary, a fifth and deciding game between the Colts and the Vipers would be played in Red Deer on Sunday at 7pm.
