Local RCMP Uncover Additional Crime After Initial Investigation

On April 22nd, members of the RCMP Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (SAD CRU) recovered a stolen truck, trailer, and skid steer and arrested one male after leaving a rural property in Mountain View County.

As a result of the above arrest, the property was held and officers of the unit, in partnership with Didsbury RCMP, Airdrie RCMP, and RCMP Auto Theft Unit, executed a search warrant on April 23rd.

Numerous items were recovered as a result of the search warrant, including six stolen vehicles, four utility vehicles, two flat deck trailers, fire arms and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

A 44-year-old resident of Mountain View County now faces charges, including possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 and failing to comply with a release order.

After a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, the accused was remanded for Alberta Court of Justice on April 25, 2024, in Airdrie.

In addition to the stolen property, RCMP discovered numerous animals on the property in distress and have partnered with the Alberta SPCA to see to their care.

56 dogs of various breeds were seized from the property, as well as 10 sheep, 9 llamas, 4 chickens, and 3 geese.

The investigation into the welfare of the animals is being conducted by the Alberta SPCA.
