Sean LaBrie from Didsbury area vying for Division 4 council seat

Sean LaBrie is one of two candidates running in Mountain View County’s Division 4 by-election.
LaBrie – who lives in the Didsbury area over by Westerdale – is a full-time rancher and Dad.
The 57-year-old LaBrie believes the community needs to be represented by a different set of skills. LaBrie thinks he brings some unique skills to the county, as well as if he was to be elected to the council.
LaBrie notes that almost 24 years as a policeman allowed him a lot of different opportunities to deal with different people under lots of different circumstances – generally in a team environment and dealing a lot of times with difficult people. So, LaBrie feels communication skills are one of his strengths. He says “so I think some good hard conversations with the provincial government. I think there is some real opportunities there. I think that the difficulties are more with the federal government dealing with things the county doesn’t have direct control over but must manage for the other two levels of government and I think that those just need to be massaged continually in order to make sure our voice is heard.”
While LaBrie doesn’t have a political background, he coaches minor hockey and minor baseball in Didsbury. He also currently volunteers with Mountain View County’s Ag Service Board and has been on that board for about 8 years now. LaBrie says “I have no specific agenda. I really want to hear what the good people of Mountain View County Division 4 feel are there concerns and then see if I can help out with that, help communicate that either back to council or back to the province. As we’ve seen, the province isn’t maybe playing the nicest all of the time in the sandbox when it comes to the smaller communities.”
LaBrie is also a past President of the Foothills Forage & Grazing Association which deals with landowners and agriculture in general. He also sat on the Calgary Police Rodeo Association Board for seven years and was a competitor there up until about 2019.
Mountain View County is hosting an online candidates forum on Monday at 6pm.

Advanced polls for the Division 4 by-election will run from 3pm until 8pm on October 9th at the Melvin Hall, and from 9am until 2pm on October 10th at the Bergen Hall.

The by-election is coming up from 10am until 8pm on October 16th at both the Melvin Hall and the Bergen Hall.

On Thursday we ran a story on the other candidate in the Division 4 by-election – Tiffany Nixon – and that is available to view in the news section of our website mymountianviewnow.com.
